The “Windcatcher” brand has become established as the market leader in its field, so much so that the term “Windcatcher” is almost universally known as the generic term for a roof mounted, turret style natural ventilation unit. Through years of experience and research, Monodraught have refined the concept of “top-down” natural ventilation from it’s basic principles to arrive at a sophisticated, market leading solution called the Windcatcher X-air.

The system consists of an external static louvre and internal sliding louvre which varies the opening and free area through the louvre face. The variable louvres provide maximum ventilation rates when fully open, can be modulated to control airflow, or closed to prevent the ingress of precipitation

In addition to the ACTIVLOUVRE arrangement, the system also incorporates external air catchment fins to provide greater area at the louvre improving performance in relation to wind speed. Pressure release vanes at the fins provide a means to reduce face pressure under high winds. The systems can also be specified to include solar powered architectural lighting

WINDCATCHER X-Air systems are available in a range of standard sizes. Monodraught provide detailed calculations to size the WINDCATCHER X-Air systems for any particular application.

When designing X-air, Monodraught also looked at making the installation process quicker and easier. They have developed a first and second fix approach to achieve this. In the first stage, a composite upstand is fitted into the roof and weathered by the roofing contractor or builder. The second stage is then simply a case of craning the X-air unit down onto the upstand, and fitting the internal grille, damper & ductwork. The following video shows a unit being lifted into place.
